SEO Foundations for Corporate Websites: A Pre-launch Checklist

The essential technical, content and performance checks that help search engines understand a corporate website correctly.

Search engine optimization is not simply adding keywords. A healthy SEO foundation combines crawlable pages, a clear heading hierarchy, fast loading, mobile usability and content that answers real user intent.

Technical foundation

Each page should have one canonical URL, unnecessary redirect chains should be removed and HTTP status codes should be used correctly. The sitemap should contain only indexable URLs, while robots.txt should keep admin, payment and private endpoints away from search crawlers.

On-page structure

Every page needs a unique title and description. The H1 should describe the main topic, while H2 and H3 headings should organize supporting subjects. Images need useful alternative text and link labels should explain where the visitor is going.

Performance and mobile experience

Large images should use modern formats such as WebP or AVIF, unused code should be reduced and non-critical assets should be deferred. Readable typography, generous tap targets and stable layouts are essential on mobile devices.

Post-launch monitoring

After launch, Search Console and analytics tools should be used to monitor crawl issues, index coverage, organic queries and conversion behavior. SEO is an ongoing process rather than a one-time setup.
